"In giving blood or an organ of your body, may you always have this human and religious perspective: may your gesture be made as an offering to the Lord, who identified himself with those who suffer ... May it be a gift made to the suffering Lord, who in his passion gave himself completely and poured out His blood for the salvation of mankind." John Paul II
"Actions such as giving blood can be a powerful expression of human solidarity and of Christian charity. Such actions can help build a culture of life, a culture in which life is cherished." - The Most Reverend Peter Smith Archbishop of Southwark
Every 2 seconds someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion. This means the Red Cross must collect 44,000 pints of blood every day to meet the demand. Currently there are approximately 10 million blood donors in the United States. This is only 3 percent of the population. So join the elite and give blood. Every pint donated can potentially save 3 lives.
Blood Donors Must:
Be at least 17 years old
Weigh at least 110 lbs. Additional weight requirements apply for donors 18 years old and younger and all high school donors.
* Note: Healthy means that you feel well and can perform normal activities. If you have a chronic condition such as diabetes, healthy also means that you are being treated and the condition is under control.
